Happy October everyone! If you haven’t noticed by now, October is my birthday month, which means it’s a celebration all month long (hehe). These past few weeks I was back home in Chicago and had the opportunity to check out some of Chicago’s finest cuisines, one of which was River North’s newest and hottest addition, Joy District. Joy District is located on Hubbard Street, which its notorious for its top restaurants and bars.
Joy Districtopened to the public this past April, and ever since then it has been a real hot commodity, with raving reviews and hyped up crowds. While I was in LA at the time this place had opened, I could only live vicariously through my friend’s Snapchats and Insta-stories, {talk about major fomo}.
To celebrate one of my many many birthdays, Joy District was one of them. And I got to say, it was one of my most memorable and exquisite meals I had while at home. Their dinner menu had a wide variety of easy shareable plates; from sushi to seafood to steak options, how can you honestly go wrong there? I invited my closest blogger friends to accompany me in this divine dinner; Lena of Feline Creatures, Jenn of Cranberry Tantrums and Joanna of Grace in Style(which sadly couldn’t attend).
As a big foodie, I love to try a variety of different dishes, and all of these were up to par. See below for more:
Crispy Phyllo Wrapped Tiger Shrimp
Review: Shrimp is one of my favorite foods but this dish bursted with flavors and was definitely one of my favorites.
Tuna Poke Cones
Review: Talk about cuteness overload! I wasn’t feeling the cone mix, but I thought the poke inside tasted fresh and flavorful.
Grilled Spanish Octopus Tacos
Review: Very interesting, never had octopus tacos before. Great mixture of toppings.
Spicy Tuna Hamachi Roll and Zucchini and Sweet Corn Fritter
Review: Sushi, on point, totally would come back to try their other sushi rolls. The Zucchini was definitely flavorful, and again quite unique.
Himalayan Salt Slab Alaskan Halibut
Review: This is Joy District’s top popular choices, the halibut was cooked and seasoned well.
Lobster and Fresh Pappardelle
Review: One of my favorites!!! Lobster was seasoned great (wish there was more) and the pasta was nicely cooked with perfect flavor.
And of course there ain’t no birthday without some dessert! Joy District surprised me with three of their top {not to mention really GOOD LOOKING and photogenic desserts}:
Cotton Candy Strawberry Shortcake, Banana Split and Milkshake with cute candies on top!
In addition to some lemon drop shots to kick off my birthday celebration; Joy District was amazing! Afterwards, my friends and I checked out their second floor, where the drinks and some dancing continued. Joy District also has a rooftop as well, but it unfortunately closes at 10 PM, so sadly I was not able to check it out. I guess it will give me another reason to come by for the next visit!
