Essentials To Bring on Your Winter Trip to Lake Tahoe

The cold season at Lake Tahoe lasts from November to March, and for these four months, travelers have the chance to enjoy a beautiful winter wonderland. Read through this list of essentials to bring on your winter trip to Lake Tahoe before you start packing.

Base Layers, Mid-Layers, and Outer Layers

A warm outfit begins with a base layer that wicks away moisture to prevent sweat accumulation. Base layer tops and bottoms should fit smoothly under other layers. When you’re indoors, you can remove other layers and wear just the base layer for comfort.

The mid-layer traps heat close to your body. Fleece jackets and woolen sweaters make excellent insulating mid-layers.

Top your outfit with an outer layer, also called a shell layer. A waterproof or water-resistant jacket or coat will protect you from snow, water, and wind chill. These three layers work together to keep you warm and dry, so it’s essential for you to bring them on your winter trip to Lake Tahoe.

Ski and Snowboard Gear

Lake Tahoe is one of the top winter sports destinations in the US, so it’s likely that you’ll want to ski or snowboard. Pack lip balm, tissues, sunscreen, ski socks, gloves, and sunglasses for your comfort while on the slopes.

You might want to bring your own equipment. But if you’d rather not travel with your gear or you don’t own the following items, you can usually rent them from the shop:

  • Helmet
  • Balaclava
  • Goggles
  • Ski or snowboarding pants and jackets
  • Skis or snowboard
  • Ski boots or snowboard boots
  • Ski poles
  • Ski lock

Clothes for Après-ski

Enjoy the casual Lake Tahoe social scene in effortless style. You can head straight to après-ski activities after you finish skiing, snowboarding, or snowshoeing.

Change out of your ski boots and into waterproof boots. Wearing a beanie will keep you warm and cover up your helmet hair. You can change into a chic athleisure outfit, but most people stick to wearing the mid-layers they wore earlier in the day.
