Mmm, soup! If you’re like our family, you know that bowls of soup are a mainstay in the kitchen in wintertime. Here’s why.

Warms the Body

The winter season brings cold weather, from the rain to the snow. When you’ve been outside for even a few minutes, the elements can give you a chill that’s hard to shake off. When you need warming up, drinks like hot chocolate and foods like steaming soups can be a great way to do so. Of course, that’s in addition to putting that fuzzy blanket on top of you on the couch!

There’s Something for Everyone

There are so many recipes that there are choices to suit the kids and adults alike. Whether you cook a batch for everyone or simmer different varieties for the youngsters than for yourself is up to the household.

Simple soups are ideal. That’s because they require minimal time to make, are easy to prepare in a busy home, and appeal to many peoples’ taste buds.

They’re even better when made with healthy ingredients. A great example is the best chicken bone broth made of pasture raised chicken bones, filtered water, and organic ingredients like onions, carrots, and celery, and other sustainable materials.

Feeling Full

When you’re hungry in winter, salads are not likely to fill you up. Instead, soup is usually more satisfying and helps you feel full once it is digested. That content feeling is amazing on a cold, blustery day.

It can also be a great appetizer before the main dish if you like. The warm bowl can help you feel more at ease after a long winter day before eating pasta, salmon, or another dish your family loves.

Of course, the soup can be a filling main dish if you add vegetables and noodles or rice to it. You might even add a peeled, hard-boiled egg at the end.

Rehydrate the Body

The kids’ sports activities continue through December, and they can get tired from ice hockey, skating at the local rink, or other winter sports.

The reason soup is good for rehydrating the body is because it is high in water. Thus, it can satisfy that thirsty feeling your little ones have, and it can do the same for you after an exercise session.

If your kids are tired or dizzy, they are likely already dehydrated, and it’s best to get them a glass of water right away to hydrate fast. To help prevent them from getting to this point, pack a water bottle with them during activities and remind them to take sips along the way.

On Today’s Menu: Yummy Soups

Feel good about eating delicious soups that are easy to make at lunch or dinner. A big batch can last for multiple meals, and your kitchen will smell amazing as it’s simmering on the stove. Healthy eating doesn’t have to be difficult, and soups are a great example of that. Plus, they make meal planning easier and less tedious.
