Eliminate Any Distractions

The first thing you need to do is try and eliminate distractions. A huge contributor to feeling disconnected from your food is watching television or scrolling through your phone. Distractions such as this, tend to take your focus off your food, and they can also lead to you overeating, or finishing your meal without savoring it. The danger of doing this is that it can contribute to weight gain, as you will psychologically feel hungry faster because you didn’t process the fact that you were having a meal. If you can be mindful and stay away from distractions then this will help you to savor your food more.

Chew Slowly

Another thing you can do is try and chew slowly. Slow down, and make sure that you chew your food before you swallow. If you can do this then you will be able to aid your digestive system and you can also gauge when you feel full faster. This is great, to say the least as it helps you to avoid stuffing yourself and ending up with indigestion issues later down the line.

Take a Seat

It’s so important that you sit down when you eat. If you eat on the go, then you won’t be intentionally carving out time to dine. This can be a major mistake as you may end up eating more fast food than you should. On top of this, you may end up missing out on the sensory pleasure that comes with eating. If you want to do something about this then make time in the day to sit down and have your meal. You can even cook fast food at home if you want, as this gives you the chance to have the meals you love, but in a more mindful way. Be Thankful

Express gratitude for your food where possible. Even if you do this quietly to yourself, it helps you to develop a much more mindful way of eating. Think about how good it is to indulge in a food that you feel energizes you. Think about foods that delight your taste buds, so you can find other foods just like it. If you can do this then you will soon find that it is easier to get the result you want out of your routine.

Start Small

When you prepare your plate, make sure that you begin with a smaller portion. When you have finished eating, you can then go ahead and add more of what you want. This forces you to think about what you want, so keep that in mind if you can.
