Carlo V.D. Broeck is a London based style curator fascinated by menswear and lifestyle.
1) What made you want to start your blog and how would you describe your style in 3 words?
I started posting photos on Instagram to get unbiased feedback on my outfits from people I didn’t know. I posted once a day and eventually twice a day. This was a lot less than the actual photos we took. I thought it might be a cool idea to actually post more photos on the blog with a brief description of what I’m wearing or what was going through my head that day.
I think the 3 best words to describe my style are:
Dapper, Sprezzatura, and original (a representation of who I am and what I’ve been through)
2) Who is your fashion inspiration?
Nick Wooster convince me to start wearing colors I wouldn’t have previously considered.
I am also inspired by Angel Ramos (Angel | Bespoke), Danilo Carnevale, Dan Trepanier (Articles of Style) and Gianni Fontana.
That said, almost everyone that attends Pitti Uomo brings something unique to the table.
3) What’s the one wardrobe essential you can’t live without?
Wool knitwear – perfect for layering under a blazer or on top of a polo shirt.
4) What is your most favorite thing about blogging?
Besides the love and support I get from everyone, I love talking to people and brands that are as passionate about menswear as I am.
5) What is a quick fashion tip or advice for men?
When purchasing new items, look at the composition of the material.
Choose natural fibers (wool, cotton, linen, etc) over synthetic fibers (polyester, acrylic, nylon, etc). Synthetic fibers are most of the time not as comfortable and can be harmful to the environment.
Personally I try to avoid items that contain polyester.
6) Do you have any favorite stores or brands?
I personally do not have a favorite store or brand. Regardless what store I am in, I first look at the quality and composition of the garment. If the item fits and it appeals ot me, I’ll make the purchase regardless of what store I am in.
