Jorge Gallegos was born and raised in a small town in Mexico. He majored in Graphic Design but was always interested in Fashion. Jorge grew up fascinated with the American pop culture and in spring of 2013, he finally made the move to the Big Apple (also known as New York City). Ever since then, his blogging career has been on the rise; working with major publications like GQ & DETAILS and collaborating with brands like Perry Ellis, H&M, Coach, Topman among others.
When Jorge is not busy Instagramming the latest men’s trends or parties, you can find him creating social media strategies for his clients, giving that he’s also a freelance Community Manager.
1. What made you want to start your blog and how would you describe your style in 3 words?
I started blogging back in 2010, when I was still in Mexico going to a University, and my English wasn’t adequate yet. Even though English was my second language, blogging was my passion, and I still received great feedback from it. It was a combination of music, fashion, male models and personal stories — kind of like my online journal. When I moved to NYC, I knew I had put together a more well-thought blog, that’s how iammanchic.com started.
I guess you can describe my style as cheeky, dapper and whimsical.
Who is your fashion inspiration?
Nick Wooster! He has been in the menswear industry for a long time, and you can tell he knows his sh*t. I admire his passion, and I like that he takes risks with his fashion choices by always stepping out of his comfort zone. That takes some balls, and not everybody can do it. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him before, and he is such a cool guy, very down to earth.
What’s the one wardrobe essential you can’t live without?
A good leather bag! I take my laptop everywhere, so it is crucial for me to have a functional yet stylish backpack.
What is your most favorite thing about blogging?
The one thing I like the most about blogging is that I get to create stuff. I have a very artistic personality, and blogging allows me to express myself through pictures, concepts, and photos shoots. I LOVE putting together “mood board” and creating a story for my posts.
What is a quick fashion tip or advice for men?
Buy clothes that fit perfectly and have irrefutable styling.
Do you have any favorite stores or brands?
For Spring 15 I’m obsessed with Mr. Turk. The brand is so vibrant and youthful; I just can’t get enough of those cheery patterns and prints.
