Making Moving Simple
It’s not a secret that moving house is a stressful thing to do. You need a plan in place but even the best laid plans go awry – or so they say.
When it comes to moving to a new property, planning is one of the most important pieces of the puzzle. So, with that in mind, take a look at how we believe moving can be made as simple as possible.
- Start with your packaging. You need boxes, you need tape and you need to get your label printing sorted early so that you know what goes in the boxes. Packaging is so important when it comes to moving house because it’s going to get you entirely ready for the actual move. Having an actionable list will be able to keep your move on track and make you feel organized. You should take a look online for any online lists for ideas to organize a move so it’s not complicated. The best part about an online list is that you can add or subtract things that don’t make sense for you or that would add to your move. Always consider a paper copy here though, because then you can stick it to the fridge so everyone can see it.
- Pack early. Did you know that the average person packs about two months before they actually have to move? Last minute panic is real when it comes to moving house, so it’s always better to get things packed. Once the move is finalized as definitely happening, you can start packing things that you haven’t seen for a while. It’s also a good time to declutter.
- Sell, donate and bin what you can. We just mentioned decluttering, and one of the best ways to prepare for a move is to start making a pile of things to sell, things to donate, and things to bin. The easiest way is to move with as few items as possible. When you move with less, you have less boxes and less packaging to pay for, so it’s always going to save you money to do that. Items that you can’t sell before the move should be packed in their own box and labeled to sell so that it’s easy for you to get to when you’ve got to the new house.
- Colour code everything. Pick a color for every room of the new house. When you pack a box with items from that room, slap a label or a sticker with it on that room’s colour. Keep the color-coded list on your phone or on a piece of paper and make sure that each of your kids knows which colour theirs is as well so that they can see which boxes will go to their room. Always use labels for more than one side of the box, because that’s going to help you to see everything as you need to.
Moving is so much simpler with these tips, so implement yours today and let us know how you got on.
