Lent Fridays with Weber Grill

Fancy Nanc-ista
Happy Friday!  You know what today is?  It’s the second Friday of Lent.  Those of you who are unfamiliar with what Lent is… It is a period of time where Catholics give up certain foods or pleasurable activities as a way of remembering the suffering of Christ.
My family takes part of Lent every year, so I like to partake as well.  You don’t have to necessarily give up something you love for the 40 days it lasts, you can always just not eat meat on Fridays too.

Last Friday was my first meatless Friday of the year, and I kicked off my Lent weekend with dinner at Weber Grill. Weber Grill is serving a unique spin of Fish and Chips, as well as other meatless items on their menu for lunch, dinner, and carryout, every Friday through March 27.  Courtesy of Chef Larry Donahue, his version on Fish and Chips, offers a Planked Parmesan- Crusted Lake Superior Whitefish served with Cut Fried Potatoes, Coleslaw and Lemon Aioli and Malt Vinegar, mm’mm good!  Last Friday my guest, Lena and I had the opportunity to taste their delicious featured menu items!

Weber Grill has three locations other than in River North, so if you live nowhere near the city, you’re in luck they have locations in Schaumburg and Lombard as well.  Since I live in the city, I chose to go to the River North location (539 N State).  As we arrived we were seated promptly, and were told that Hector would be our server.  Looking at the menu, we knew we would try the Planked Crusted Whitefish, but we were baffled on what items to choose, there were so many!  When Hector arrived, he recommended some dishes, grilled colossal shrimp, grilled lemon garlic swordfish, planked grilled chilean sea bass, to name a few.  We decided that Hector should just take the lead and pick for us, which he definitely did not disappoint!

[Grilled Colossal Shrimp]
This was the first thing we started with, a very light, well seasoned dish!

[Planked Parmesan-Crusted Lake Superior Whitefish and Chips]

[Planked Grilled Chilean Sea Bass]

[Grilled Lemon Garlic Swordfish]
Then we were served the three main dishes of the night.

These three were cooked to perfection.  Lena and I had different takes on each plate.  I would say my favorite one was the Chilean Sea Bass, it was the most moist and the fish was seasoned just right.  Lena thought the swordfish was her favorite of the three.  Although I would say that the garnish and overall presentation was lovely on all plates.

[Grilled Oysters Rockefeller]

[Grilled 6 oz. Lobster Tail]

Yum?   Have I ever mentioned seafood is my most favorite kind of food!?  Then there was the oysters rockefeller, UM can I order some more please?  I am not so much an oyster fanatic, but when they are grilled/cooked, they are heaven in my mouth.  That, and these lobster tails were also served next.  Definitely would have eaten the whole thing in an instant if I wasn’t already full from the other few dishes!  Totally would come back for these two.
(If you don’t think these last pictures made your mouth water…  Wait ’til you see these!)
[Creme Brulee]

[S’mores Molten Chocolate Cake]

[inside]
How can you say no? to this ooey-gooey goodness, melt in your mouth heaven?

[Triple Chocolate Bundt Cake]
Yup, and we save the best for last.  Who knew Weber Grill would have to die for, heaven in your mouth desserts?!  I have only been here once before, but never thought to order dessert…   The Creme Brulee had a nice smooth texture that just melted right in your mouth.  The two chocolate cakes were to die for.  Especially the s’mores cake, how could you resist the warm, gushy chocolate goodness inside, and on top of that the s’mores covered on it! It seriously was ahh-mazing!  Thanks to our server Hector, for recommending the BEST desserts ever.  I seriously feel like I need these in my life, soon… 🙂  Out of all of them, if I had to choose?  Ah?  It’s a tie between the chocolate cake and the s’mores lava cake… Which is biased because I am an addict to chocolate. :-$.
After a long, delicious meal…  Lena and I were ready to cozy up, and pass out from food coma!  Thank you Chef Jason Friedland and our server Hector for having us and letting us taste the menu!  Thank you to our server Hector for being absolutely amazing!  He definitely did not disappoint (especially our tummies)!
