How To Properly Take Care of Your Cuticles

With all the tips and tricks that circulate on the internet, it can be hard to pin down exactly what you need to do to take care of your cuticles. Should you cut them or push them back? How should you keep them moisturized? Luckily, this article will be your guide on how to properly take care of your cuticles.

Push Your Cuticles Back

While taking care of your cuticles is important, you don’t want to let them overgrow. Use a cuticle pusher after you step out of the shower to push back your cuticles gently. Letting your cuticles overgrown can cause them to split, letting dirt enter the nail bed. If not dealt with quickly, this can lead to a serious and painful infection.

Moisturize Properly

Cuticle oil is the best way to keep the skin moisturized. However, not all cuticle oils are built the same. Avoid overly wordy ingredient lists and stick to simple, natural cuticle oils that contain jojoba and or vitamin E. In addition, keep the rest of your hands moisturized with a thick hand cream that will soak into your skin instead of just staying on top. Look for lotions with hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and glycerin as their top ingredients instead of perfumes.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals

Now that you’ve moisturized your hands, you want to keep them that way. When using any cleaning products, it’s best to wear gloves, especially if you want to prevent your skin and nails from becoming dry and cracked.

Also, if you can’t avoid using hand sanitizer or you wash your hands a lot, keep that moisturizer on hand, as most hand soaps have harsh alcohol and perfumes. Also, if you’re someone who gets their nails done often, try your best to avoid acetone when removing your nail polish. Gentler products can remove gel nails without exposing your skin to harsh, drying chemicals.

Now that you know how to properly take care of your cuticles, you can have beautiful nails anytime, anywhere, even without a manicure. So treat yourself and start moisturizing!
