Hotel Review: Sonesta Philadelphia Downtown Rittenhouse Square

Sonesta Title

Situated minutes away from Philly’s most prominent area – Sonesta Philadelphia is located just blocks away from Pennsylvania Convention Center, City Hall, and many of Philadelphia’s historic sites and attractions.

I kicked off my 2020 with a visit to Philadelphia last month — I have been longing to venture out more of the east coast and though it was not the greatest weather, still had a memorable and fun time!

MY EXPERIENCE

We arrived later in the evening, our friend who lives there met us at a train station, which was conveniently walking distance from it (oh how I missed living in a city!). As we walked in, Sonesta Philadelphia’s front area was stylishly decked in impressive modern art (which I later found out that all the art is for sale and the exhibits are rotated every 6 months). While waiting to check-in, a lady working there offered us some crab cakes and refreshments, which was a nice touch as I was starving. Check-in was quick and easy.

Room:

The rooms are contemporary and have decor with gray, red, and white accents. The hotel was nice enough to upgrade us, and we stayed in their King Suite. The King Suite had 2 rooms featuring 2 bathrooms, a king-sized bed, a sofa bed, and a wet bar.

They left us a nice bottle of champagne and some macarons with a nice little note (which I loved).

Hotel Dining and Cocktails:

See below two in-house restaurants located in the lobby at Sonesta Philadelphia:

Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse

Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is a newly opened in-house restaurant. Known for its USDA prime steak, Ruth’s is a restaurant you can’t miss.

Start your day off with an array of breakfast items or stop by here for an evening of light bites and beverages for happy hour. We didn’t get to really check out their happy hour but had a chance to check out their breakfast.

Hotel Amenities:

Fitness Center

Sonesta Philadelphia offers guests a 24-hour fitness gym with basic gym equipment. In addition, you are given free passes to the Philadelphia Sports Club across the street – which is a nice perk.

Rooftop Pool

On the 8th floor, you can find their outdoor pool which for obvious reasons is only seasonal (opened through September 29th).

24-hour Business Center and Other Amenities

Other amenities include a 24-hour business center with multiple computers. There’s also dry cleaning and laundry offered to guests as well.

OVERALL RATING

Sonesta Philadelphia Downtown Rittenhouse Square was a real treat! I have stayed in many suites before but I really liked how spacious the rooms were, not to mention the 2-bathrooms were a definite plus! If you’re visiting Philadelphia and want to be central downtown, this is the hotel to book!
