Meet Kalan of Senor Guapo

Kalan of Senor Guapo

Manly Mondays are back, with a new weekly series, featuring my favorite Men Bloggers from all across the globe.  Each Monday, you’ll get the inside scoop on the different trends, tips, and of course the man behind his blog.   If you are interested in being featured in my Manly Monday’s series, please email me fancynancista@gmail.com. |

1) What made you want to start your blog and how would you describe your style in 3 words?
I started my blog because my friend suggested it.  I eventually want to have my own menswear collection and she suggested that I begin to brand myself and establish a voice in the industry by showcasing my personal style and knowledge of menswear and men's style.  My friend is a noted fashion reporter and television personality so I figured she knew what she was talking about!

2) Who is your fashion inspiration?
I don't have one particular fashion inspiration.  I pull elements from many different people and parts of the world to create a look that I feel is uniquely mine.  Currently my aesthetic is European street wear.

3) What's the one wardrobe essential you can't live without?
I cannot live with out joggers and extended tees.  I'm 6'4 and athletically built (I'm a fitness fanatic), so joggers fit well and come in a variety of cuts and fabrics now.  Whether they are traditional joggers, edgy harem pants, or chino joggers, I rock them all!  Extended tees are usually slim in nature and sit well across my shoulders.  I love the crew and scoop neck ones.

4) What is your most favorite thing about blogging?
The creative process!!!  Blogging, for me, is a way to place creative energy into the visuals and the wordplay.  I have a love affair with writing, be it creative and academic.  Blogging lets me get my chops off in a way that merges those two disciplines.

5) What is a quick fashion tip or advice for men?
The most important thing to know is the correct size for your body type.  Everything doesn't have to be high end but if it fits well it will look high end.  Some of the best pieces come from "regular" stores because it fits.  Find a fit or a designer/brand that fits you well and stick with them.

6) Do you have any favorite stores or brands?
I am in love with Ralph Lauren because it's timeless and quintessentially American.  You can never go wrong with a pair of slim Ralph Lauren chinos!

Kalan has a unique, classy, and clean look, dontcha think?  Make sure you check more of his looks on his website and Instagram

Tropical Romper

Palm trees, vacation, and sunhats...

With almost a week of summer officially starting, it's safe to say that this look helps set that summer mood. :-)

No but really, doesn't it?

I planned on wearing this romper for a collaboration I did with Brandon of Wall Street Paper in May, but it never shipped on time, so when it did, I was happy it didn't because I thought it would pair well with California's scenery.  And, it did. :-)

Rompers are a great summer piece, they are basically a "one stop shop" look, great to put on and only thing to worry about is accessorizing!  I love how the print itself has vibrant colors, making it the center piece of my look.  I easily accessorized this look with a floppy sun hat, sunglasses, nude heels and a nude clutch.

Black and White

It is a very rare occasion for me to wear solid colors such as black and white, but when I do, I like to mix different textures or styles into one look.

Although for this look, as simple as wearing a pair of black ankle strapped heels, I wore a pop of blue heels to finish my look off!

Loose-Fitted Crop Tops

Clearly I am on a current "crop top obsessed" phase.  I am slowly starting to grow my collection of crop tops!  Crop tops come in all shapes and sizes, and unlike my crop top from the last post, this top is flowy, short-sleeved, and pretty casual.

This post is basically the opposite of my last.  When wearing crop tops, always think about proportions.  Since this top is loose-fitted, try pairing it with a more fitted bottom, such as a penciled skirt, shorts or even trousers.  Again, I went with the color white, as it creates a very summery feel, perfect for this season!

This yellow blazer gives my look a bit of a pop!  And it's always great to have a jacket in handy for the evenings when the weather decides to drop down to low 60's...

I accessorized with a white vintage purse, cat-eyed sunglasses. a gold watch, and a light pair of black strapped heels to finish my look off.

Bow-Tie Crop Top

We are half way through June, it's definitely that time of year to take out our crop tops!  Crop tops have been in season for quite some time now, from frills, feathers, tank tops, to even bow tie crop tops, you just can't go wrong.

Crop tops can be worn a variety of different ways.  One of the ways is pairing it with high-waisted trousers, just like I did for today's look.  This way, you have only a little skin showing between both pieces, which creates a more classy and ladylike look.

Since the top is the highlighted piece here, I accessorized with pieces such as a nude clutch and nude strapped heels.  Simple touches, such as dangly earrings, gold rings, and a yellow bracelet help to finish off this sophisticated look.

What a fun printed crop top to kick off this summer!

Throwback Thursday: My Favorite Looks in Chicago

It has always been a dream of mine to live in the City of Angels aka Los Angeles ever since I remember.  I am from the northwest suburbs of Chicago, so I have lived in Illinois all my life and wanted a new change, and let's be honest.... I really didn't think I was capable of surviving another dreadful winter again.

LA is known for a city to make dreams come true, right?!  Another great reason I moved was to pursue my career.  Most of you may know that I have a degree in Animation and VFX, and it just so happens that the city I wanted to live is the place to be.  It's so crazy to meet so many people pursuing a career somewhat similar to you. in Chicago it was mainly people in finance, marketing, or real estate.  It's definitely a different world out here.

I am very fortunate enough to have already a few close friends who live here, so I don't completely feel alone.  Though it's only been a short time, I am already meeting great people and exploring wonderful places, I am excited to see what this new adventure will bring!

For today's post I wanted to reminisce on my favorite looks in Chicago.  So here we go....
